Signal Boosters Usage Prohibited by Law

The DoT advisory emphasises the unlawful nature of using and possessing unauthorised signal boosters in the country. Signal boosters or repeaters are devices that amplify the cell phone signal reception, but their unauthorised use can result in a disruption of public telecommunication services. This, in turn, jeopardises the quality and coverage of the network and poses a risk to crucial calls made by the public to organisations such as the police force or hospitals.

Therefore, it is unlawful for individuals and organisations to possess or use signal boosters, and only licensed telecom service providers can utilise them. The sale and distribution of such devices are also unlawful. These actions are punishable by the court, and anyone with information regarding their unlawful possession, use, or sale should inform the Wireless Monitoring Organisation (WMO) of the Department of Telecommunications.
